Pierson Environmental Club plants eelgrass

Pierson High School’s Environmental Club recently worked with Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Program to transfer eelgrass to Haven’s Beach. The initiative was put on by Cornell Cooperative and about 50 volunteers showed up despite the wet weather.

Environmental Club president, senior Augustus Hayes, explained the initiative: “Divers from CCE pulled eelgrass up with their roots and we helped place them in burlap. The eelgrass is transported to Haven’s Beach area to be replanted and help local marine life like oysters grow.”
