Pierson High School holds their NHS Induction Ceremony

Pierson High School recently had their National Honor Society induction ceremony. This year, 36 Pierson students joined the current 26 NHS members. Director of the program, and Pierson ENL teacher, Lauren Kacherski, explained that the mission of the society is “to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate desire to render service, promote leadership, and develop character in the students of secondary schools.”

At Pierson, the National Honor Society Pierson High School chapter is an active organization and represents an elite group of students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and upheld a commitment to the values of the organization. Maintaining a minimum 90% cumulative weighted GPA, performing community service, attending all meetings, abiding by the Pierson High School Code of Conduct, and setting a positive example for other students are all membership requirements.

A community driven ceremony, Dr. Robert Schumacher, a science teacher at Sag Harbor's Pierson Middle and High School, was invited as the guest speaker and Pierson’s Chamber Orchestra performed for all in attendance. The introduction of the inductees was guided by NHS members Caroline McGuire and Eva McKelvey and the presentation of certificates by Pierson High School Principal Brittany Carriero and Assistant High School Principal Michael Guinan. Student speeches were done by NHS members Rachel Monaco, Sebastiano De Felice, Tucker Kinney, Isabelle Caplin, Chad Federico, Lacklan Fuer, Lance Schroder, Ava Garabedian and Augustus Hayes.
