Sag Harbor Pre-K students visit their local food pantry

In Mindy Reyer’s prekindergarten class, students recently took a trip to The Old Whaler’s Church of Sag Harbor to help with the local food pantry. The students walked from the Sag Harbor Learning Center to the church for their first field trip of the year.

With food to donate in hand, the students were shown how to sort the food much like a grocery store. They used the photos on the cans to figure out where each item went.

Volunteers of the food pantry also gave the students a tour of the food storage area in the rear of the historic church. Here they learned that the granite walls came from ships and were once used as ballasts. This generated a great discussion for the Sag Harbor Home of the Whalers prekindergarten class.
