Submitted by vraicovi on Tue, 04/29/2008 - 2:09pm.All fifth graders selected a prominent person in history or current events to portray. Each student researched a subject, wrote a report on his or her life and accomplishments, painted a backdrop depicting that person’s life and times, and dressed in costume for the Wax Museum. Every year the Wax Museum is a culminating activity for the fifth graders as they get ready to head over to the Middle School at Pierson next year. This interdisciplinary activity draws on all the subjects they studied and skills they’ve developed in the elementary school.

Jordan Haerter, a 2006 Pierson graduate, was killed in Iraq by a suicide bomber on April 22nd. Today, many community members lined Main Street to give Jordan a final and solemn homecoming. People gathered to support his family and to pay tribute to a hero who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
Many of Jordon’s friends and classmates are organizing a candlelight vigil that will be held on Pierson Hill tonight at 9:00 P.M.
The wake will be held at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor on Sunday, April 27th from 2:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
Funeral Services will be held at the “Old Whalers” Presbyterian Church at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 28th. The burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery.
School will be in session on Monday. Students who wish to sign out of school to attend the funeral may do so and are asked to bring a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian. Any faculty or staff member who wishes to attend the funeral should contact Mr. Nichols or Ms. Frisicano so appropriate coverage may be arranged.
