Dear Sag Harbor Community Members,


The Board of Education wishes you all a very Happy New Year! On December 14, 2018, Board Member January Kerr resigned from the Sag Harbor School Board effective immediately.   At the December 17, 2018 Board of Education Meeting, the Board of Education voted in favor of the appointment process to fulfill their duty to maintain a full governance body of seven members.  We recognize that this may be short notice but we hope to appoint someone as soon as possible.  We have created the following timeline to fill the vacant seat:

January 11, 2019               Deadline for applications to be submitted.

January 14, 2019               Candidate interviews with the Board of Education

January 15, 2019               Possible 2nd evening of interviews with the Board of Education

January 28, 2019               Chosen candidate is expected to be appointed and start serving.

The legal requirements to be a Board of Education Member include:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, and not employed by the Sag Harbor School District:
  2. Must be qualified voter and a resident of the Sag Harbor School District for a period of one year immediately preceding the date of the appointment:
  3. May not hold another incompatible public office or position of employment;
  4. Cannot reside in the same household with another Board member as a member of the same family.

Sag Harbor Board of Education meetings are typically twice a month, approximately 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Mondays.  By agreeing to be appointed to this open Board of Education seat, you would fill the position until May 21, 2019.  To continue serving on the Board of Education after May 21, 2019 you would need to run at the election held on May 21, 2019, along with any other candidates running.  There will be three (3) available seats at that election.
