PIERSON CENTENNIAL

OCTOBER 05-06-07-08, 2007.  ARE YOU READY?

Those are the dates of Pierson’s 100th birthday party.  Your Centennial Committee has worked very hard and this newsletter should bring you up-to-date so you can start making plans to attend the celebration.

For all to know:  WE HAVE A WEBSITE:  piersoncentennial.com

We have listed almost 1,600 names from 1989 back.  Everyone from 1990 – 2006 must go to the website and register themselves.  A teacher’s list is also provided at the website.  WE NEED YOUR HELP.  Please contact everyone you know and make sure they have registered.  If they don’t have a computer, have someone who does print out a registration form from the website for them to complete and mail to us at P O Box 2670 Anyone who attended or taught at Pierson for any length of time is invited.

WE NEED YOUR HELP:

To help defray some of the costs for The Centennial, you will find an enclosed list of items we are selling.  A Christmas ornament, hats and shirts are listed.  You can also find them under our website e-bay store.  Merchandise will start being shipped after Thanksgiving.  We would hope everyone would buy something from here for themselves, family and friends.  For the picture on “The Hill” wouldn’t it be nice to see everyone in one of our shirts?

ANOTHER ITEM:
We are running a 50/50 raffle.  Tickets are enclosed.  Simply make up as many copies as you wish to purchase and send to us.  This is the biggest reason for this letter.  Pierson, by law, is not allowed to do anything concerning a raffle.  We can’t sell them on the school grounds.  Pierson can not collect money for them.  Our website, piersoncentennial.com, cannot offer them to you.   Checks purchasing raffle tickets should be made out to Centennial 50/50.  This is our Not-For-Profit corporation we had to start to accommodate this part of our fund raising.  (The school has many state requirements they must abide by.  It has made our job difficult at times, but the administration and staff are trying to work with us to bring forth a wonderful event.)

ANYONE WILLING TO UNDERWRITE OR DONATE MONEY FOR ANY PORTION OF THIS EVENT SHOULD CONTACT US.
A sit down dinner with entrees of seafood, beef, chicken or vegetarian is being planned.  However, we have to rent tents, tables, chairs and much more to accommodate everyone.)

Our website will start posting class pictures.  WE NEED YOUR HELP to obtain every class picture available.  Can you identify those in the pictures?  Let us know.

We hope to publish a “Souvenir Booklet” for this event.  We will publish this for everyone with the cost being paid for via advertising.

Our hope is that you, the alumni, will respond to this letter in a big way.  We would hope you would respond as soon as possible.  At year end 2006, our committee will take an accounting to determine our profit from fund raising.  By that same time we will have finalized the costs for Saturday’s (10/06/2007) expenses.  Around the end of February 2007, we will send out invitations for the dinner with pricing.

OTHER PROMOTIONS:
We are open to suggestions for raising funds.  A fixed priced dinner at a local restaurant is under consideration – Mar ’07.  A commemorative “blue” dish is being looked into.  Let us know your thoughts and we will have more on this later.

Our website will also include a “link” for hotel/motel accommodations.  Both East Hampton and Southampton Town, along with the Villages of Sag Harbor and North Haven, are on board to work with us to help with parking and possible camp sites.  This should be complete by February 2007 as the committee needs to meet with the different Chambers of Commerce to have those facilities register at our website.

HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE YOUR SCHOOL RINGS?????  Rings prior to 1971 had the Pierson coat of arms on a black stone.  After ’71 came big changes.  Let’s wear them!

In closing, please remember to contact anyone who attended Pierson to inform them about this 100th birthday party.  We welcome all suggestions.  We will be expanding our committees soon and anyone interested in assisting, please let us know.  For more information, contact George via 631-725-0752.
